Preschoolers' Nutrition

Magazine article:

Below is a magazine link that focuses on the importance of children eating healthy with a special focus on iron. In addition, the magazine article gives further information to parents as to what they can feed their children in order to ensure they are getting enough iron as well as, symptoms that may occur if their child is not getting an adequate supply.

Photograph illustrating the theme of  preschool nutrition that is discussed in chapter 6:

In regards to preschool nutrition I like the photos that appear below. The first photo displays healthy eating and preschoolers enjoying it. The second photo displays the ever important to preschool eating, the food pyramid.

Video Clip explaining the concept of preschoolers' nutrition:

Below is a link to a video displaying Sesame Street characters who are discussing nutrition in a kid-friendly way. If children realize that nutritious food is delicious and good for them they will learn that eating fruits and veggies are good for them all of the time, and other snacks like cakes and cookies are foods that should only be eaten every once in a while. In addition, the video explains to parents how to add fruits and veggies into everyday eating.

Two Internet sites:

Many parents are unsure how to get their children to eat healthy and nutritious foods. The link shown below not only advises parents on how to encourage their children to eat healthy, but it also gives wonderful examples of healthy foods.

The link below gives helpful feeding information for preschoolers, healthy food choices, and nutrition and activity tips. The food choices encourage parents to feed their children food of all colors. Each of the colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple represent the five food groups plus oil.

Song lyrics:

As I read about preschool nutrition the song lyrics to Apples and Bananas continually ran through my head. I find this song to be fitting to the information in chapter 6 regarding nutritious eating and preschoolers as it emphasizes that preschoolers do like to eat healthy food it simply needs to be provided to them by their parents.

Two Paragraphs:

I chose Chapter 6 in the text because I have a preschool aged child and I found the information in the text to be relevant to my personal life as well as interesting. I chose to go with preschool nutrition as the focus of this portion of my blog because so many children in the United States are currently obese.

The information provided in the text explains the importance of healthy eating for both physical development and brain development in preschoolers. It is important that preschoolers eat candy and drink sugary drinks only occasionally while most of the food that they consume is of a healthy nature such as fruits and vegetables.
